The research group "Quality of life, psychosocial intervention and citizenship" integrates a multidisciplinary team of researchers, which allows for a comprehensive knowledge and vision from a multidimensional perspective of quality of life and psychosocial intervention.
Human development is studied from a developmental, systemic and ecological perspective, taking into account the individual and his/her interaction and mutual influence among different actors and contexts. Quality of life (QoL) is a multidimensional concept that includes different domains (i.e. physical, psychological, social and environmental), objective components (e.g. physical, economic and social conditions) and subjective components (e.g. well-being and life satisfaction) (Gaspar et al., 2010). This concept refers to "an individual's perception of his or her position in life within the context of the culture and value systems in which he or she lives and in relation to his or her goals, expectations, standards and concerns" (WHOQOL Group, 1994, p. 28).
The studies developed aim at understanding and characterising the different factors related to quality of life, such as socio-demographic factors, personal factors (chronic illness, mental health, resilience, spirituality, neuropsychological functions), factors related to health and well-being (lifestyle, sleep habits, diet, physical exercise, stress), social factors (social support, relationship with family, work relationships) and community and political factors (community resources, programmes and policies in the area of health promotion at the biopsychosocial level).
The study of quality of life and psychosocial intervention includes diverse populations, children, youth, adults and elderly, different professional groups and different contexts, such as school, organizations and community. As products we intend to reach different audiences. The dissemination of the results is done through articles and participation in scientific events, manuals and books for professionals, technicians, general population and the political power. The research group privileges the involvement in community outreach activities, developing action-research projects in partnership with various governmental and non-governmental entities.
The group has promoted the internationalization of research through several projects that count with the partnership of universities and other foreign entities.
