Work and Professional Contexts, Social Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility

Several CLISSIS members have been involved in the development of studies and research projects that have in common the work and professional and corporate contexts, which integrate a diversity of social problems linked to quality of life, work conditions, human resources, environmental and social impact of economic activities, and CSR practices. This justified the organization of a new research group that is still in process.

RP 1: Project “Idade, desemprego e exclusão social” (Aging, unemployment and social excusion)

Description: To identify and to evaluate the factors that may promote barriers to the reinsertion of people with a college education aged 45 over that formerly worked in industries and services, in the labour market.

 

RP 2: Project "A gestão do envelhecimento no trabalho: Políticas, Actores e Estratégias para um prolongamento efectivo da vida activa" (Aging management in the contexto of professional life)

Description: This PhD research on Social work of Professor Paula Ferreira (CLISSIS researcher) analysed the extension of active life and the way how this process has been implemented in the organizational practices through the interpretation of the political concerns and guidelines (public employment policies) and the visions of the main actors involved (workers and entrepreneurs). For this an extensive documental research was done, and three case studies of Portuguese companies, interviewing HR officers, social workers and workers commission, to understand how these companies tried to adapt, namely in their human resources policies and internal CSR policies. The research received the Prize Award Silva Leal, established by ISCTE- IUL and the State Secretary of Social Security that recognize students that stand out with relevant research works in the areas of social security and solidarity and social economy.

 

RP 3: BERTS Project (Bearing Enlightenment and Resilience Towards Sustainability) focuses on CSR, sustainability & development issues.

Target population: Students of management courses and Entrepreneurs.

Goals:

  1. Identify the fundamental processes of decision making in social and organizational transformation that can ensure durable, safe and fair solutions to achieve social sustainability;
  2. Examine and compare how corporate social responsibility CSR is understood by the public, by students of management courses and by companies proven in Portugal.
