The main objective of the GEACC is to promote, in Portugal, the introduction of Ethnomethodological Conversation Analysis (EMCA) within research and training in Social Work, through direct and microanalytical studies of the conversational frames of social intervention (social appointments, home visits, meetings with relatives, team meetings, group intervention sessions, etc.) in diverse sectors of intervention: social action (municipalities and parishes); migrant support; palliative care; social gerontology; childhood protection and parental counselling; social housing;homelessness; primary healthcare).

The collection of audio or video recordings of the intervention work of social workers provides a solid empirical ground for a conversation analysis of professional practices, in conditions which favor the further development of the collaboration between researchers and intervenors (Practitioner Research), from the collection to the collective analysis of conversational data, in a co-construction of second-degree knowledge: knowledge about the local knowledge of the professionals, constructed in the field and improved through practice.
