Presentation

The Lusiada Research Center on Social Work and Social Intervention (CLISSIS) was born in 2007, as a unit of ILID - Instituto Lusíada de Investigação e Desenvolvimento, dependent of Fundação Minerva - Cultura - Ensino e Investigação Científica. Being first closely linked to the Social Work Institute, CLISSIS had quickly broadened its research field, to a larger scope of “social Intervention”, integrating several scientific proveniences, aiming to be a scientific reference in the knowledge on social problems, as tool for the promotion of new strategies, policies and programmes on welfare and quality of life.

In 2014 CLISSIS was evaluated by FCT with classification BOM and started to have financial support from FCT in 2015. CLISSIS increased its team from 13 members in 2014 to 43 researchers in 2018. ISSS Porto is an active partner and we include 2 researchers of PIAGET Institute.

CLISSIS researchers come from several scientific areas. A first and significant group come from Social Work integrating teachers and researchers from Lisbon Higher Social Work institute of Lusiada University (ISSSL UL) and from Porto Higher Social Work School (ISSSP) and several professionals from social institutions. A second group comes from Psychology and many of them are linked to the Lisbon Lusíada Institute of Psychology and Educational Sciences (IPCE UL), and also work in public or social organizations. A third group come from other social sciences such as sociology and anthropology, and also Human Motility.

Our strengths are: our multidisciplinary nature, with social workers, psychologists, sociologists, anthropologists, experts on human motility; its linkage with social and community organizations, with a clear concern of social intervention; and its linkage with several university schools.

The majority of CLISSIS researchers are also teachers in the graduations of Social Work, in the masters of Social Work and Gerontology and in the Social Work PhD (ISSSL UL and ISSSP), and in the graduation of Psychology and in the masters of Psychology and Music Therapy (IPCE UL).

CLISSIS hosts the PhD Program on Social Work of Lusíada University.

Actually CLISSIS integrates the following research groups: Aging; Identities and Territories; Conversational Analysis; History of Social Work; Social responses and strategies; Social sector actors and organization; Sports as a social intervention methodology.
